A trainee medical negligence lawyer locked her dog in her kitchen for a week until it starved to death.

Katy Gammon abandoned five-year-old boxer Roxy while she stayed with her mother, leaving the dog to spend six days clawing at the door until it went blind, slipped into a coma and died.

When the 27-year-old returned a week later the stench through her letterbox was so strong she could not face going inside - so returned to her mother for another nine weeks.

Roxy was only discovered when a neighbour saw a swarm of flies at the kitchen window, and was so decomposed an RSPCA inspector had to scrape her body off the floor with a shovel. (Information courtesy Mail Online)

Casanova has lost his will to live, he refuses to eat anything. It is as if his heart was broken one too many times. Turned into a kill shelter by the man who had owned him, adopted the day he arrived at the rescue and then returned back a few days later because he had kennel cough. The kennel cough quickly turned into pneumonia, Casanova has lost ten pounds, he has huge bed sores because he refused to even get up. Yesterday we thought we were losing him, we had to move him from one of our regular vets to an emergency vet. If Casanova is to survive they have to put in a feeding tube and surgically go in and clean out the deep wounds. His liver functions are bad, his body is just shutting down, we need to save this big, gentle boy who has so much love to give. Please help us save him!

CHINPA'S STORY: Chinpa was pulled from BARCS in Baltimore City about 4 years ago for a potential adopter in NJ. Along with being extremely thin, Chinpa has an old wound on his back leg that doesn't really hinder him, except he couldn't sit down in a smaller crate. He stood all the way from Baltimore to NJ to meet his new family. The family had two other dogs and instead of gradually introducing the dogs, Chinpa and the two dogs were immediately introduced. Yeah, you guessed it... since Chinpa and the other two smaller dogs all freaked out, Chinpa stood all the way back to Baltimore to a boarding facility. He stayed in the boarding facility for about 3 months. The rescue that pulled Chinpa from BARCS was located in AZ, so that was his next trip... in a crate. When he arrived at the rescue, he lived there for approx 2 years. In a run outside. I was the one who originally pulled Chinpa from BARCS for the rescue in AZ. When I heard that they were closing, I asked my rescue partner Betsy Ritter ( Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue ) if we could take him, Betsy graciously said yes and arranged that Chinpa be flown into Harrisburg Airport. We picked him up there and he's been at our rescue ever since (since last winter). He hasn't had one application. We don't understand it because he is one of the most loving dogs ever. His heart is pure and filled with love for humans, he deserves nothing less than a loving family who can focus on loving him. And he does get along with some other dogs if given the proper chance. NEVER Look Away - MUST read

For the past three days on my way to the freeway I noticed a small dog on the side of the road that was obviously dead. Like a lot of people when I am driving and see an animal that has been killed up ahead, I look away. After all, I don't want to see the poor thing that lost its life in that condition.

I will NEVER look away again. I will face the unpleasant task of looking at them to make sure there are no signs of life and even pull over to make sure. I will never look the other way again.

Today I was home, just changed into my comfy PJs to sit down and work on the computer, when my neighbor Inga Barks knocked on the door. She had been on her way to work when she looked over at what she assumed was a dead dog on the side of the road. Only this one lifted its head. Inga made a U-turn and went back to make sure she really saw what she thought.

Yes, indeed, the dog was alive!! This is the SAME "dead dog" I had passed on the road for the last THREE days and looked away so I wouldn't have to look at it.

Never look away.

This is our newest rescue, the "dead dog" on the side of the road. She wasn't moving at all, only lifting her head up. We took her to Dr. Slaton, WVAH, where she currently is now resting and waiting for medical treatment. She has a shattered pelvis, not just broken in one or two places. Her back left leg needs to be amputated. She has obvious nerve damage. Although we are not sure of the extent of the injuries exactly, we are hopeful that her tragic story will have a happy ending.

We were not expecting to take on another medical dog and we are in great need of donations to help this girl get the medical care she needs. If you could spare $10, $20, $40, it will go a long way towads her care. She has a long recovery ahead of her. Let's show her that we will NEVER look the other way again!
